Electronics design & repair workshop · Winnellie, Darwin

Electronic products, designed and built in Darwin.

Circuit boards, firmware, software, radio and network comms, and the enclosure to put it all in. Made under one roof in Winnellie, for industrial and home use.

Websites, fleet systems, and the odd job nobody else will touch. The same workshop, tools and people also repair computers, electronics, and vehicle and boat electrics. If we can design it, we can diagnose it.

What we build

One shop, the whole product.

Most electronics projects need four different suppliers. Here it’s one workshop, one quote, and one set of files you own at the end.

Electronics design and PCB fabrication

Schematics, board layout, and the boards themselves, made in-house. Sensors, power, motor and relay control. From a single unit to a small production run.

Firmware and embedded software

The code that runs on the board: real-time control, safe start-up and recovery, watchdogs, and updates over the air.

Software, dashboards and apps

Web dashboards, phone apps, APIs and the backend behind them, so you can see and control the thing from the office or the paddock.

Networking and comms

Ethernet and Wi-Fi, 4G, LoRa for long range on low power, and custom radio links where nothing off the shelf reaches.

Enclosures: 3D design, CNC and 3D printing

Cases, mounts and panels designed around the board and made here. 3D-printed, CNC-machined or laser-cut, sealed to IP67 where it has to live outside.

Testing for the Top End

Heat, humidity, salt spray, vibration and submersion before it ships, because Darwin is harder on electronics than the datasheet expects.

Websites and web apps

Designed, built, hosted and kept ranking, on your own domain with no monthly builder fees. From a five-page shop site to a booking system with logins and payments.

Reverse engineering

When the manufacturer is gone, we work out how the thing works, document it, and keep it running or replace the part that can’t be bought.

Jobs we’ve done

A few jobs, to give you the idea.

The scope is wide on purpose. If it has electronics, software or a network in it, we’ve probably done something like it.

Alabanos Taxi fleet system

Dispatch backend, driver and customer portals, the in-car devices and the comms link to the meter. Built by us, managed by us, running every day.

Car wash coin dispenser

Reverse-engineered a banknote-to-coin dispenser the manufacturer no longer supports, and kept the car wash earning.

broaderworld.com vessel tracking

A boat-tracking app using AIS and GPS, with a live position you can share with family or the marina by scanning a QR code.

Eazy Towing NT

24/7 online towing bookings, a live dispatch board, automatic SMS to customers and drivers, and an Android driver app.

Offshore aquaculture controllers

Networked relay controllers in IP67 cases, Modbus over Ethernet with 4G fallback, switching feed equipment at sea.

Aesthetica By Andy

Booking, content management and a storefront that replaced a monthly Square subscription. The owner runs it without us.

PawAWhere

A QR pet-tag service with per-tag subscriptions, a vet lookup portal and the full Stripe billing lifecycle.

Steel-mill pipe bender brought back to life

The original controller was dead and the manufacturer no longer exists. We built the relays, sensors and a new controller with web management, plus secure remote access over a 4G connection with no fixed IP so files can be moved on and off the machine from anywhere.

Digital signage fleet

Thin-client display players with remote scheduling and a private VPN hub, replacing a box that kept falling over.

What we fix

And because we have the gear, we fix almost anything.

A workshop that designs and makes circuit boards can diagnose them too. That’s why the repair side exists.

For businesses

IT and networking for Darwin businesses.

Same workshop, on the phone and on site. Everything documented, owned by you, with no lock-in.

How it works

Start with a conversation. Free.

01

Tell us the problem

A sketch, a broken unit, a spreadsheet you’re sick of, or a laptop that won’t start. Walk in Mon–Fri 9am–5pm at 4/143 Coonawarra Rd, Winnellie, or call.

02

We work out what it takes

Free diagnosis on repairs. For projects, a written scope and quote after we understand what the thing has to do and where it has to live.

03

You decide

Fix it, build it, or don’t. Nothing is charged until you’ve approved a written quote.

About the workshop

An engineering shop with the gear to make things, not just talk about them.

IATRT is run by Kavinda Weerachandra from Unit 4, 143 Coonawarra Road in Winnellie. In-house: PCB design and fabrication, CNC, laser cutting, 3D printing, and the test equipment to prove a design survives Top End heat, humidity and salt.

Before opening the workshop he spent six years running networks and IT at PC Mart Darwin, four years installing marine electronics with Wheelhouse Marine NT, and three years keeping remote aquaculture feed systems running in Tasmania. That’s why one shop can design a controller in the morning, fix a boat’s chartplotter at lunch and sort out a business network in the afternoon. More about us.

Questions

Common questions

Can you design a one-off device for my business?

Yes. Most of what we build is one-off or a small run: a controller for a machine nobody makes parts for any more, a monitoring system for a remote site, a relay board with the exact inputs and outputs you need.

Do I own the design?

Yes. Schematics, board files, firmware and software source, and the documentation are handed over as yours. No lock-in and no licence fees.

Do I need to book for a repair?

No. Walk in Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. Booking a time is handy for bigger jobs or if you need us to come to you.

What does a repair cost?

Diagnosis is free. Workshop repairs start from $150 including labour, with parts quoted on top. You approve the total before we start.

Where are you?

Unit 4, 143 Coonawarra Road, Winnellie, just off the Stuart Highway and about ten minutes from the city. Parking at the door.

Do you come out to sites, homes and boats?

Yes. Callouts across Darwin and Palmerston are quoted per job, and we travel further for project work and scheduled trips to Katherine.

Where we work

Darwin, Palmerston and the rural area.

The workshop is in Winnellie. Callouts cover the city, the northern suburbs, Palmerston, Howard Springs and Humpty Doo. Project work and courier repairs come from across the Territory.

Sheet complete

Closed up. Screws in. Ready to ship.

Every section above is one layer of the product: the board, the code, the comms, the case. This is what leaves the workshop, and it is yours, files and all.
