Intellectual property — who owns what we make for you

The short version

For development work, you own the project IP. Schematics, board files, firmware and software source, design files and the documentation are handed over as yours, in a repository structure the next engineer can pick up. No lock-in and no licence fees.

When ownership transfers

At final handover: after agreed testing is complete and final payment is settled, you receive the project documentation pack and, where IP transfer is part of the project, it is completed then or under the already-agreed contract position.

What IATRT keeps

Our own tools, libraries and know-how that existed before your project or were built outside it stay ours; where a project uses them, you get a licence to keep using them in the delivered system. We also keep the general skills and techniques we learn on every job — but not your design, your data or your product.

Third-party parts

Open-source and third-party licensed components keep their own licence conditions. We list what is used and under which licence in the handover pack.

Confidentiality and NDAs

What you tell us about your product and your business stays between us. If you need a signed NDA before the first conversation, ask and we will sign one.

Case studies

We only name a customer or describe their system publicly with their agreement.

Repairs

Fixing your equipment does not change who owns it or its design. Where we design a replacement board for obsolete equipment, the replacement design is treated the same way as any other development work: yours at handover.

Leaving

You can pause or leave at any time. There are no lock-in contract periods. Support after delivery is optional, and you can take the delivered system to another maintainer with the handover pack.
