Darwin Service
Data Recovery Darwin
Hard drive, SSD, USB and SD card recovery, RAID and NAS recovery, and rescue of data from dropped, dead, water-damaged, or storm-damaged laptops and desktops — from our Winnellie workshop.
If your drive clicks, beeps, won't mount, shows up as "unallocated", or your laptop simply won't power on, the data is usually still there. We assess the failure mode, clone or image the device where safe, and recover what's recoverable. Where the drive controller board has failed we can work at the component level rather than throwing the drive away.
Honest triage first: we'll tell you whether the job is logical recovery (good odds, low cost), electronic / controller-board work (mid-range), or a head-stack / platter failure that needs a cleanroom partner (we'll refer you on rather than make it worse). No fishing-expedition billing.
Service scope
Drives, devices, arrays, and the boards that drive them.
Hard Drive & SSD Recovery
- Failing or dead spinning hard drives — clicking, beeping, slow read, SMART warnings
- SSD and NVMe failure — controller fault, sudden disappearance, "drive not detected"
- Bad sector mapping, image-and-clone to a healthy target, then file recovery from the image
- Honest assessment when the job needs a cleanroom — we won't make it worse trying
USB, SD Card & Phone Storage
- USB stick that "needs to be formatted" but you haven't formatted it
- SD and microSD card recovery from cameras, dashcams, drones, and phones
- Photo and video recovery from accidental delete, corrupted file system, or interrupted transfer
- RAW recovery where the file system is unreadable but the data blocks are intact
RAID, NAS & Server Recovery
- Failed RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, and 10 arrays — rebuild planning, parity reconstruction, virtual-array assembly
- NAS recovery (Synology, QNAP, and similar) where the box won't boot or a volume won't mount
- Small-business server data extraction before reinstall or hardware retirement
- Backup audit afterwards so the same array failure doesn't take your data twice
Water, Storm & Drop Damage
- Liquid-damaged laptops — coffee spills, monsoon water ingress, marine salt exposure
- Lightning and surge-damaged desktops and NAS units — component-level board work where the drive itself survived
- Dropped laptops where the drive is fine but the machine no longer powers on
- Storm and power-outage damage common to Darwin's wet-season environment
Logical & OS-Level Recovery
- Accidentally deleted files, emptied recycle bin, formatted volume
- Corrupted Windows or macOS install with user data still on the drive
- Encrypted drives where the key or password is known — BitLocker, FileVault, LUKS
- Outlook PST / OST recovery and mailbox extraction
Aftercare & Backup Setup
- Migration of recovered data to a healthy drive and verified target
- Backup setup so the next failure isn't a data-loss event — local, cloud, or both
- Documented handover so you (or your IT provider) can keep it running
- Optional ongoing monitoring under our managed support tiers
Before you bring it in
Stop using the device. Every read from a failing drive risks making the data harder to recover. If the machine is making unusual noises, power it off and bring it in.
Free initial assessment by phone or at our Winnellie workshop. We'll confirm scope and the most appropriate next step before any chargeable work starts.
