Darwin wet-season service

Storm, Lightning & Surge Damage Repair Darwin

Diagnosis and component-level repair of storm, lightning, and power-surge damage to computers, NVRs, modems, inverters, control boards, and marine electronics across Darwin and the NT.

Darwin's wet season is hard on electronics — close lightning, dirty power, brownouts, and weeks of high humidity push otherwise healthy boards into failure. After a storm, the typical pattern is "modem won't power on, half the network is dead, the NVR is dark, and the inverter is throwing an error". We work through the chain rather than guessing.

Because we repair at the component level — bad MOVs, blown TVS diodes, ruptured caps, failed MOSFETs, dead power rails — more of your equipment is recoverable here than at swap-only repairers. When something is genuinely past safe repair we say so and document it for insurance.

Service scope

After-storm diagnosis, repair, and insurance-ready reporting.

Computers, NAS & Servers

  • Desktops and laptops that won't power on after a storm or surge
  • NAS units, business servers, and workstations with blown PSUs, fried boards, or smoked Ethernet ports
  • Data recovery from drives that survived even when the host machine didn't — see data recovery
  • Replacement and rebuild planning where repair isn't economic

Networking & CCTV

  • Modems, routers, switches, and access points killed by surge through the line
  • NVRs and IP cameras dropped by close-strike events
  • Re-cabling, surge-protection upgrades, and PoE chain inspection
  • System recovery for CCTV installations — whether installed by us or not

Inverters, UPS & Power Equipment

  • Solar inverter repair, power inverter repair, and UPS board recovery
  • Replacement of damaged power-stage components — MOVs, TVS diodes, MOSFETs, bridge rectifiers, bulk caps
  • Battery and DC-rail testing after a surge event
  • Reliability upgrades on known-weak boards rather than a like-for-like reinstall

Industrial Controllers & PLCs

  • Failed PLC inputs and outputs from line surges in workshops, sheds, and remote sites
  • Industrial control board repair, sensor and I/O channel diagnosis
  • Hardening recommendations — better surge protection, isolation, and grounding
  • Coverage across our industrial automation capability

Marine & Field Electronics

  • Boat chartplotters, MFDs, autopilots, and switch panels after a strike or rough weather
  • Salt-ingress and humidity damage repair where boards are recoverable
  • Full marine refit and integration support via marine systems
  • Field-rugged replacements where the original part is no longer made

Insurance & Reporting

  • Written assessment of fault, likely cause, and economic repair vs replacement
  • Photo and test-result documentation suitable for insurance claims
  • Quote that separates labour, parts, and replacement so insurers can process it cleanly
  • Honest "this is past safe repair" calls when that's the right answer

How we work

Triage the chain, repair what's economic, harden what's left.

Surge events rarely take out a single device cleanly — damage propagates through the cable, the network, the power chain. We work through the affected chain to find every damaged item rather than fixing the obvious one and missing the next failure waiting to happen. After repair we recommend practical hardening — proper surge protection, isolation, and grounding — for the next wet season.

After a storm

Unplug what's affected and stop trying to power it on. Repeated attempts can spread damage from a marginal component to a wider failure.

Free initial assessment by phone or at our Winnellie workshop. On-site callouts are charged separately. We provide clear scope, timing, and cost expectations — with insurance-ready documentation on request — before any chargeable work begins.
