Lightning & Storm Damage Repair Darwin

The storm passed, and now the modem’s dead, half the network is down, the NVR is dark and the inverter is flashing an error. We work through the whole chain, repair what’s economic, and write it up for your insurer.

Surges rarely kill one thing cleanly. They travel down the phone line, the power and the network cable and leave marginal parts waiting to fail next week. We check the lot.

What we fix

What a strike takes out, and what we can bring back.

Computers and laptops

Desktops and laptops that won’t power on after a storm. Blown power supplies and damaged boards repaired, and your files rescued even when the machine can’t be. See computer repairs.

Modems, routers and switches

The most common casualty in Darwin. Surge through the phone line or NBN box takes the modem, then the switch, then the Ethernet ports of everything behind it.

CCTV recorders and cameras

NVRs that won’t boot and cameras dropped by a nearby strike, whether we installed them or not. See CCTV.

TVs and home electronics

TVs, amplifiers, game consoles and appliance boards with blown power sections, repaired at the component level.

Inverters, UPS and solar

Solar inverters, 12V inverters and UPS units with damaged power stages. Surge suppressors, diodes, MOSFETs and capacitors replaced rather than the whole unit.

Industrial controllers and PLCs

Burnt inputs and outputs on controllers in sheds, pump stations and workshops, plus advice on protection so it doesn’t happen next wet season.

Marine electronics

Chartplotters, radios and switch panels on boats after a strike or a rough week on the mooring. See marine.

Insurance reports

A written assessment of what failed, the likely cause, and whether repair or replacement makes sense, with photos and test results laid out the way insurers want them.

How it works

Unplug it. Bring it in. We check the chain.

01

Unplug what’s affected

Stop trying to power things on. Repeated attempts turn a marginal part into a dead one. Bring in everything that was connected, not just the obvious casualty.

02

Free assessment

We test each item and trace how the surge travelled, so nothing is missed. Then a written quote that separates repair, parts and replacement.

03

Repair, report, protect

Economic repairs done and tested. A report for the insurer if you need one. Advice on surge protection and grounding for next time.

Questions

Common questions

Will insurance cover lightning damage to my electronics?

Most home and business policies cover it, and most insurers ask for a written assessment. We provide one that lists what failed, why, and the repair or replacement cost.

Several things died at once. Is that normal?

Yes. A surge follows the cables, so anything sharing the power board, the phone line or the network is at risk. Bring in everything that was connected.

The computer is dead. Are my files gone?

Usually not. Power supplies and motherboards take the hit; drives often survive. We recover the data even when the machine is beyond repair. See data recovery.

Is a surge protector worth it?

A decent one, yes, especially on the modem and the NVR. It won’t stop a direct strike but it handles the far more common line surges. We can advise on what to fit.

Can you come and look at a business with lots of dead equipment?

Yes. On-site assessment is quoted per job, and we can bring the small items back to the workshop for repair.

Where we work

Darwin, Palmerston and the rural area.

Winnellie workshop for drop-offs. Site visits across Darwin, Palmerston, Howard Springs and Humpty Doo during the wet season, and broader NT work by arrangement.

After a storm

Unplug it and stop trying to turn it on. Bring everything that was connected, not just the thing that’s obviously dead.

Assessment is free. You get an itemised quote in writing, and an insurance report if you need one.
