Ship Repair Northern Australia

Marine electronics, electrical, and control-system repair and refit for vessels operating across northern Australia — Darwin Harbour, the Top End, and the broader NT and far-northern coast.

We work on commercial, government, and recreational vessels at the level the work actually demands — component-level board repair, controller diagnostics, full and partial rewires, and integration of nav, comms, power, and monitoring systems.

Tropical heat, salt air, and wet-season conditions mean marine equipment in this part of the country gets worked harder than the spec sheet expects. Our approach is repair-first and longevity-focused — the goal is a vessel that stays in service and supportable, not one that comes back every six months.

Scope of work

Electronics, electrical, controls, and integration.

Marine Electronics Repair

  • Plotter, sounder, radar, AIS, VHF, and HF radio diagnostics and repair
  • Component-level PCB repair on removed assemblies in our Winnellie workshop
  • NMEA 2000 / NMEA 0183 backbone fault finding and remediation
  • Antenna placement, RF interference isolation, and grounding fixes

Marine Electrical & Power

  • 12V / 24V DC system rewires, refits, and rebuilds
  • Battery banks, chargers, isolators, DC-DC converters, and inverter repair
  • Solar, shore-power, and load management with corrosion-aware install
  • Galvanic isolation, bonding, and grounding remediation

Controls, Monitoring & Integration

  • Engine, generator, and pump controller repair and integration
  • Tank, bilge, fire, and alarm monitoring systems
  • Bridge integration with proper documentation and labelling
  • Remote and shore-side monitoring with auditable access

Refit, Survey-Ready Wiring & Documentation

  • Full and partial rewires with as-built documentation
  • Switchboard, helm, and panel rebuilds with serviceability designed in
  • Survey-ready installs with paperwork the surveyor actually wants to see
  • Reliability fixes during refit windows rather than band-aid patches

Diagnostics & On-Vessel Service

  • On-board fault isolation for intermittent and long-running issues
  • Workshop-level repair on removed assemblies — not just swap-and-charge
  • Reverse-engineering for legacy systems where docs are gone
  • Same-day or scheduled on-vessel work depending on scope

Lifecycle Support & Spares

  • Spares strategy and obsolescence planning for working vessels
  • Tiered managed support tiers with real response expectations
  • Refit and upgrade windows planned around operational schedules
  • Handover that any qualified marine tech can pick up later

Coverage

Darwin workshop, on-vessel across northern Australia.

Our base is Winnellie, Darwin — a short run from East Arm Wharf, Cullen Bay, Frances Bay, and Stokes Hill. We work on vessels berthed in Darwin Harbour and travel for scheduled work across the NT coastline and broader northern Australia where the job justifies it.

For workshop-level repair on removed assemblies — boards, controllers, displays, and chargers — courier-in / courier-out turnaround is usually the fastest path regardless of where the vessel is. Removed gear lands with us, gets diagnosed and quoted up front, then repaired and shipped back with documentation.

Why northern Australia is different

Tropical conditions, long supply lines, real consequences.

Equipment in northern Australia runs harder. Salt air corrodes, humidity gets into connectors, wet-season storms stress everything from antennas to grounding, and dry-season heat kills marginal power supplies. Spec sheets aimed at temperate marine markets don't survive long enough up here.

Supply lines are long and parts cost real time to land. That means our default isn't the cheapest swap — it's the repair, refit, or redesign that keeps the vessel in service and reduces the next outage. Where replacement is genuinely the right call we say so up front, including the trade-offs.

Consultations

Free consultation by phone or at our Winnellie workshop. On-vessel callouts and out-of-Darwin trips are quoted separately. The initial consultation confirms scope, effort, and the most sensible next step before major work starts.
