12V & vehicle electronics · Winnellie, Darwin

Auto Electrical Darwin

Dual batteries, DC-DC chargers, lights, UHF, cameras, car audio and the wiring faults that come with Top End heat and dust. Cars, utes, 4WDs and trailers, at our Winnellie workshop.

We’re an electronics workshop, not a mechanic. That means we can repair the module or the head unit itself, not just swap it, and we don’t do engines, air-conditioning or roadworthy inspections.

What we fix

12V and 24V work on cars, utes, 4WDs and trailers.

Dual battery and DC-DC systems

Second battery in the tray, under the bonnet or in the canopy, charged properly from the alternator and solar. Redarc, Victron, CTEK and similar. Lithium or AGM, sized for your fridge and your trips.

Canopy and touring fit-outs

Fridge circuits, lighting, USB and 12V outlets, water pumps, inverters and Anderson plugs, wired with correct cable sizes and fuses so nothing melts on the Stuart Highway.

Lighting

LED light bars, driving lights, work lights and camp lighting, switched and fused properly. Spotlight wiring that doesn’t flicker and doesn’t blow fuses.

UHF, dash cams and reversing cameras

UHF radios and antennas, dash cams hard-wired so they don’t flatten the battery, and reversing or trailer cameras on the tow vehicle.

Car audio

Head unit installs, amplifiers, subwoofers and speaker wiring, plus repair of the units themselves when they stop powering up. See electronics repairs.

Trailer and tow wiring

7-pin and 12-pin plugs, Anderson charge lines, electric brake controllers and breakaway systems, wired and tested with the trailer connected.

Wiring faults and flat batteries

Something drains the battery overnight, lights that work sometimes, a fuse that keeps blowing, rodent damage, corroded earths. We measure it rather than guess.

Module and board repair

Body control modules, dash clusters, window and light controllers, head units and chargers repaired at the component level when a replacement is dearer than the car deserves.

How it works

Bring the vehicle in. We test. You decide.

01

Book or drop in

Fit-outs are best booked so we can order parts. Faults can be looked at on a walk-in basis, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm at 4/143 Coonawarra Rd, Winnellie.

02

We test it

Free diagnosis. We measure the fault or scope the install and give you a written quote for parts and labour.

03

Done and tested

Everything is fused, labelled and tested under load before you drive off. You get a note of what was fitted and where the fuses are.

Questions

Common questions

Are you a mechanic?

No. We do the electrical and electronic side: batteries, charging, wiring, lighting, comms, audio and the control modules. Engine, air-con, brakes and roadworthy inspections are a mechanic’s job.

Do you install dual battery systems?

Yes. Under-bonnet, tray and canopy installs with DC-DC charging and solar input, using Redarc, Victron, CTEK and similar gear, sized for what you actually run.

My battery goes flat overnight. Can you find why?

Yes. Parasitic drain is measured circuit by circuit until we find what’s drawing current. It’s usually an accessory that was never wired to switch off.

Can you fix my head unit instead of replacing it?

Often. We repair head units, amplifiers and subwoofer amps at the board level. If it isn’t economic we tell you before you spend anything.

Do you wire caravans and camper trailers too?

Yes. That’s a big part of what we do. See the caravan and campervan wiring page.

Do you do 240V work?

We work on the 12V and 24V side and on the electronics. Mains wiring in a shed or a house is a job for a licensed electrician.

Where we work

Darwin, Palmerston and the rural area.

Most vehicle work happens at the Winnellie workshop. For vehicles that can’t be driven in, we come to you across Darwin, Palmerston, Howard Springs and Humpty Doo.

Before you come in

Tell us what you run and where you go. Fridge size, how many days between power, and what you tow decides the battery and charger, not the brochure.

Diagnosis is free. You get the quote in writing before any chargeable work starts.
