Caravan & Campervan Wiring Darwin

Full 12V / 24V DC and 240V electrical for caravans, campervans, motorhomes, slide-ons, camper trailers, and 4WD touring setups — from our Winnellie workshop.

We design, install, and fault-find caravan and campervan electrical systems from one socket through to a full off-grid build. That includes battery banks (AGM and lithium), solar, DC-DC chargers, inverters, 240V shore-power hookups, fridges, lights, water pumps, fans, USB and accessory circuits, BMS integration, monitoring, tow wiring, brake controllers, breakaway systems, and reversing cameras.

Because we're an engineering shop and not a swap-only retailer, when something's playing up we diagnose at the component level — melted plugs, dodgy fuse holders, voltage drop across an undersize run, a charger that "works on the bench but not in the van", a BMS that won't talk to the inverter. Honest scope, honest replace-vs-repair calls, and documented wiring for the next person who works on the van.

Service scope

From a single accessory circuit to a full off-grid touring build.

Batteries & Charge Systems

  • Lithium (LiFePO4) and AGM battery banks — sizing, install, BMS integration, monitoring
  • DC-DC chargers from the tow vehicle — Redarc, Victron, CTEK, BCDC-class units
  • Solar arrays — fixed and portable, MPPT regulator sizing, parallel/series planning, shading-aware design
  • Battery monitoring (shunt-based) with Bluetooth or wired display
  • Isolators, fuses, busbars, and protection sized for actual cable runs and battery type

Inverters & 240V Systems

  • Pure sine-wave inverter sizing and install for kettles, microwaves, induction cooktops, tools, and CPAP
  • 240V shore-power hookups — powered-site sockets, RCD/MCB protection, internal 240V circuits
  • Inverter / charger combo units (Victron MultiPlus, Renogy, similar) with shore-power transfer
  • Generator-input wiring and proper isolation between sources
  • Repair of failed inverters at component level via electronics repair where economic

Interior Circuits & Appliances

  • LED lighting circuits, dimmers, reading lights, awning and external lights
  • 12V/24V fridge install (Dometic, Engel, Bushman, Waeco) with proper cable sizing
  • Water-pump wiring, diesel-heater control, fan and roof-vent circuits
  • USB-A, USB-C PD, accessory sockets, and 12V cig-style outlets with appropriate protection
  • Wiring diagrams handed over so the next technician (or you) can find a fault later

Tow Vehicle & Trailer Wiring

  • Trailer plugs — 7-pin flat, 12-pin flat, 7-pin large round — correctly pinned for the van
  • Anderson plug install for charge-line and high-current accessory runs, properly fused
  • Electric brake controllers (Tekonsha, Redarc Tow-Pro) install and calibration
  • Breakaway-system wiring and battery testing
  • LED tail/stop/turn upgrades, marker lights, and trailer-light fault-finding

Reversing Cameras & Comms

  • Reversing-camera install on caravans, campervans, and trailers — wired and wireless
  • Multi-camera systems (rear, side, hitch view) with monitor in the tow vehicle
  • UHF, mobile-signal boosting, and Wi-Fi for touring — mounting and antenna planning
  • Starlink and similar satellite-internet install with proper power supply and mounting
  • External speaker and amp-rack wiring where required

Fault Finding & Repair

  • "Nothing works since the trip" diagnosis — full chain testing from solar through to load
  • Voltage-drop and current-draw measurement on suspect circuits
  • Failed fuse holders, melted Anderson plugs, charred crimp lugs — rebuilt properly with correct lug, crimp, and cable size
  • BMS / inverter / charger comms troubleshooting (VE.Direct, VE.Can, RS-485, CAN)
  • Component-level repair of failed control boards, displays, and chargers where worth it

Pre-Trip Inspections & Upgrades

  • Pre-departure electrical check before a long trip — the time to find a problem is in the workshop, not at Daly Waters
  • Upgrade paths from old AGM + small panel to modern lithium + DC-DC + better solar
  • Cable resizing where existing runs are causing voltage drop or running hot
  • Documentation of what's installed, fuse map, and how to recover after a flat-battery event

Builds & Customisation

  • Full off-grid camper builds — planning, parts list, install, commissioning
  • Camper-trailer, slide-on, and 4WD touring electrical fit-outs
  • Custom switch panels and small fabrication via our R&D workshop
  • Repeatable wiring looms for fleet caravan and small commercial builders

Why us, specifically

  • Engineering background, not just sales — we'll explain trade-offs, not push the most expensive option
  • Marine-grade habits carried over from our marine systems work — salt-air-aware terminations and waterproofing
  • Component-level repair capability means more chargers and inverters get fixed, not landfilled
  • Documented handover so the next mechanic, electrician, or owner can pick it up cold

How we work

Free consultation, scoped quote, then build or repair.

Bring your van, camper, or trailer to our Winnellie workshop — or call us first. Free initial consultation by phone or in person. From there we provide a clear written quote covering parts, labour, and any commissioning or testing. For full builds we lay out a wiring diagram and parts list before any cable gets cut. On-site callouts are charged separately and are useful when the van's already too far gone to drive in.

For 12V/24V power-system fault diagnosis on boats and marine craft, see Marine Systems. For component-level board repair of inverters, chargers, and control boards, see Electronics Repair. For full custom enclosures, switch panels, and engineered builds, see Engineering & R&D.

Consultations

Free consultation by phone or at our Winnellie workshop. On-site callouts are charged separately. The initial consultation confirms scope and the most appropriate next step before any chargeable work begins.

For full builds we lay out a wiring plan and parts list before cable gets cut.
